Environmentally friendly transport solutions for transportation in Italy

LC3 and Schmitz Cargobull cooperate for sustainable transport in Italy and launch a pioneering collaboration to promote environmentally-friendly transport solutions. The first all-electric S.KOe COOL semi-trailers were recently delivered to LC3. As one of the first fleets in Italy, the trailers use no fossil fuels for cooling and therefore emit no CO2 emissions.

All towing vehicles run on BIO-LNG, an environmentally-friendly fuel that reduces CO2 emissions. The fleet is deployed for Lidl Italia, a supermarket chain with more than 730 stores nationwide. LC3 is increasingly focusing on a sustainable fleet in order to achieve the ambitious goal of zero emissions by 2050, which the European Union has formulated in the Green Deal.

Since the commissioning of the first five LNG vehicles in 2014, LC3 is the first Italian company to use them. With its ever-growing fleet of liquefied natural gas vehicles, LC3 remains a leader in sustainable transportation.

"We see ourselves at the forefront of sustainability and, with Schmitz Cargobull's all-electric refrigerated trailers, we want to further advance the electrification of freight transport in Italy. This makes us a trendsetter for the entire transport industry. The S.KOe COOL is part of this long-term sustainability strategy and we are delighted to be one of the first Italian hauliers to add this vehicle to our fleet," says Giuliano Baldassarri, Fleet Manager at LC3.

The all-electric S.KOe COOL semi-trailer is equipped with a purely electric refrigeration unit with integrated power electronics, a battery system and an axle generator, meaning it operates emission-free. The electrified trailer is also extremely quiet and therefore enables deliveries in urban areas in the early morning hours as well as in the late evening.
This partnership marks an important step towards environmentally-friendly logistics and demonstrates both companies' commitment to sustainability and innovation.
